What is the relationship between the room and the number of downlights?

When designing lighting, it is necessary to balance the relationship between the number of lamps, necessary brightness, and hole size to install them.

Selection of hole size

        · Downlights can make the ceiling feel refreshing. If you add a frame or reflector, the presence of the lightwill be enhanced. At the same time, you need to pay attention to whether it matches the color of the ceiling after it is completed.

  •         · A larger cutout size can also increase the presence of the light, but the same size will also change the way the space is presented due to different light distribution and number of lights.

  •         · Choose the size of the cutout according to the size of the room. Usually, for a room of about 10 Square meters, the diameter of the opening is about 75 mm/3". For a ceiling with a height of 2400mm, it is recommended to use an opening with a diameter of  75 mm/3".

  •         When arranging downlights, may not be installed smoothly due to vents and other equipment channels beams, and columns

Ambient color affects the number of lights

        · When the wall is white, the reflectivity is higher; when the wall is dark or glass, the reflectivity is lower. Therefore, even if the room size is the same, the number of lights required for white walls is more than that for dark walls or glass. The following figure shows the use of 15W bulb-type fluorescent lights as downlights.(unit:mm)

Beam Angle

        · The wider the angle of the light, the easier it is to spread the light throughout the room. This will make the shadows lighter and the illumination on the ground will also decrease. On the contrary, if the angle of the light is narrow, it will only illuminate certain parts of the room, causing the shadows of other parts to change accordingly.

Downlight configuration and space presentation

Reference data assuming the room size is 3000mm×3000mm×2400mm.

    · Equal configuration

The width and length of the room are evenly configured to give the whole a balanced illumination.

· Configure on the wall and the center of the room

  •         · Illuminate the distant wall that appears in the sight to increase the overall brightness of the space.

  •         · Hanging decorations such as paintings on the wall where the light shines can further emphasize the atmosphere of the space.

  •         · In addition to the wall, adding a lamp above the table can enhance the illumination of the horizontal plane.

· Configure in the center

  •         · Concentrating the lamps in the center can make people feel a centralized atmosphere.

  •         · The wall will become darker. If you want to give people a bright feeling, you can use it in combination with a wall lamp or a floor lamp, and add a lamp in the center to enhance the illumination of the horizontal plane.

· Recessed and configured in the center

  •         · Let the ceiling recess inward to form a box-shaped space, and install the downlight inside.

  •         · It can produce the visual effect of light leaking from the downlight.
